Vote for the Climate

Though personal action makes a difference, it's legislative change that will win the fight for the climate.  Elected leaders are responsible for making and passing laws, and it's our job as citizens to hold them accountable for doing so.

Members of the Brooklyn Environmental Alliance take a pledge to educate themselves on their elected leaders and hold them accountable for fighting for the climate.

Make big changes here and now

How do we hold our leaders accountable? Though our votes.

Electing the right climate leader makes the difference between doing nothing to stop climate change and solving the problem.

Seriously. It's these leaders who are going to bring about key progress.  Examples are Philadelphia's success in passing a plastic bag ban, and over 100 cities' pledge to use only clean energy in the future.

How it works in Brooklyn

Brooklyn residents vote for local, state, and national leaders.  At the local level, the New York City Council makes and passes laws related to Brookyn's environmental efforts.  These laws are important.  If 300 U.S. cities banded together to make climate change a priority, we would be just as powerful as the third biggest country in the world.  Think about that!  Your votes for local representatives truly makes a difference.

Know your leaders

The Brooklyn Environmental Alliance currently focuses on the actions of local Brooklyn politicians.  Do you even know who yours are?  We didn't, and we confess that we were pretty surprised when we found out everything they have accomplished.
