The Brooklyn Environmental Alliance is proud to support the three days of national climate action scheduled for April 22-24, 2020, led by the Climate Strike Coalition. Stay tuned for more details on how you can participate as various local and national initiatives are announced. The Climate Strike Coalition has provided these details:
“2020 is a critical year for climate action. As we approach the US elections and the consequences of climate change are becoming ever more clear and dire with each passing day, a new powerful wave of the climate movement has been swelling. Young people around the world have been rising up to defend our future, and have been going on strike — every week, all over the planet — for months. On September 20, 2019, and again on November 29 and December 6, the adults joined us.
We meant it when we said we are prepared to take the movement to the next level. We recently announced our plans for three days of striking, launching on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, April 22, and ending on April 24.
On Wednesday, April 22, we launch one of the most powerful civic actions for environmental protection in history. It will provide an opportunity to listen to Indigenous people’s wisdom and reflect on our connections to this earth.
On Thursday, April 23, we focus on community action, with voter registration drives and events occurring across the country. Youth on college campuses will also be demanding their schools divest from fossil fuels, while adults will target financial institutions to do the same.
On Friday, April 24, we strike again, for another day of collective power and unity, with millions of youth leaving school and work to take to the streets across thousands of events across the world.”
